Exports of earthquake-affected cities approached 5 billion dollars
The total exports of the 11 provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes increased by 19 percent in the January-March period of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 4.8 billion dollars.
According to the compilation of Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) data, total exports amounted to 63.7 billion dollars in the first three months of the year, and this amount was recorded as the "best first quarter export performance".
During this period, the exports of 9 of the 11 provinces affected by the earthquake increased, and the exports of 2 decreased. The total exports of these provinces increased by 19 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching 4 billion 796 million dollars.
The province with the most exports was Gaziantep with 2 billion 526 million dollars. This province was followed by Hatay with 826.3 million dollars, and Adana with 762.8 million dollars.
The province that increased its exports the fastest was Hatay with 57.41 percent. This province was followed by Şanlıurfa with 44.94 percent and Kahramanmaraş with 25.79 percent. The provinces with declining exports were recorded as Osmaniye with 37.1 percent and Diyarbakır with 20.7 percent.
Exports by sections
When evaluated in terms of sections, the "cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products" sector in Gaziantep, which made the most exports, ranked first with 738.4 million dollars. This sector was followed by carpets with 516.1 million dollars, and textiles and raw materials with 373.5 million dollars.
In Hatay's exports, the steel sector stood out with 443.2 million dollars. This sector was followed by fresh fruits and vegetables with 151.3 million dollars, and cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products with 36.2 million dollars.
In Adana, the "chemical substances and products" sector ranked first with 129 million dollars. Other sectors that attracted attention were textile and its raw materials with 128.2 million dollars, and grains, pulses, oilseeds and their products with 104.9 million dollars.
