Turkey's export to African countries reached 6 billion dollars in the first 4 months of the year.

After taking steps to enhance its relations with the African continent, Turkey has made significant progress in economic ties with countries on the continent.

Turkey has intensified its relations with the African continent since 2005, with the market value of Turkish investments on the continent surpassing 10 billion dollars. Turkish companies have achieved significant success in exports to alternative markets with their strategy of "increasing diversity," with the African market playing a significant role in this success.

According to data compiled from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkey's exports to African countries reached 6 billion dollars in the first 4 months of the year, increasing by 2% compared to the same period in 2023.

The share of exports to African countries in total exports was determined as 7.2% in the January-April period, with African countries ranking fifth among the 12 country groups to which Turkey exported the most during this period.

In the first 4 months of the year, Turkey exported 31.6 billion dollars to European Union countries, 9.7 billion dollars to Middle Eastern countries, 7 billion dollars to the Commonwealth of Independent States, and 6.7 billion dollars to other European countries.

During the January-April period, the countries to which Turkey exported the most in Africa were determined as Egypt with 1.1 billion dollars, Morocco with 982.7 million dollars, Algeria with 766.5 million dollars, Libya with 669.5 million dollars, and Tunisia with 325.1 million dollars.

Egypt, Morocco, and Algeria also topped the list in export growth.

In terms of value increase in exports to African countries, Egypt, Morocco, and Algeria were at the forefront. During this period, export increases were recorded as 210.9 million dollars in Egypt, 95.6 million dollars in Morocco, 95 million dollars in Algeria, 74.3 million dollars in Burkina Faso, and 38.6 million dollars in Ghana.

In the first 4 months, exports to Burkina Faso increased by 102.4% to 146.8 million dollars.

The highest exports were made in the chemicals and chemical products sector.

Looking at sectors, the highest exports to African countries during this period were in the chemicals and chemical products sector with 1 billion dollars. This was followed by cereals, pulses, oil seeds, and products with 879.6 million dollars, steel with 624 million dollars, automotive industry with 460.4 million dollars, and textiles and raw materials with 372.9 million dollars.

The sectors with the lowest exports were ornamental plants and products with 1.9 million dollars, olives and olive oil with 2.2 million dollars, fresh fruits and vegetables with 6.8 million dollars, dried fruits and products with 17.2 million dollars, and hazelnuts and products with 25.6 million dollars.
